Counselling Services

We are currently unable to waitlist people for counselling services, and are only accepting referrals for assessments and diagnostic screenings. Our psychologists have closed their books for new counselling referrals to ensure continuity of care for the clients they already support.

How much does it cost?

An Autism assessment by one of our psychologists costs $2400. The assessment includes a clinical interview, standardised questionnaires, an in-person session in the clinic, and a detailed diagnostic report.

Who else is involved?

As per the national guidelines for Autism assessment, a second professional is required to be a part of the team of assessors. Our psychologists can conduct the assessment in collaboration with a paediatrician, psychiatrist, or speech pathologist.

Please note: To access Department of Education funding for additional support within the school setting, a paediatrician or psychiatrist’s confirmation of an Autism diagnosis will be required. Interim funding may be available until a paediatrician or psychiatrist appointment takes place.

Frequently asked questions about our Lego® Therapy Group

Do not delete
How much does it cost?

$90—$130 per session depending on the number of participants. This will be confirmed prior to the commencement of the first session of the term. Invoices are sent out after each session.

What happens at the Lego® Group?

We aim to ensure that the Lego® group is always facilitated in a neuro-divergent affirming manner. With that in mind, participants can take breaks as required, use a range of sensory regulation strategies and items, and communicate in a manner that they are most comfortable with.

The group is facilitated by two Senior Therapists as well as a therapy assistant (as required). The sessions run for one and a half hours: one hour for the group plus transition time before and after for parent check in and feedback as required.

The small group session involves an initial check-in regarding the social and emotional status of all participants and facilitators. Visual supports and communication tools are available to support these interactions as required.

During the first half of the session the group engages in a ‘structured build’ using Lego, in which participants take turns in various roles such as Engineer, Supplier and Builder.

The second half of the session is for ‘free build’ time, in which participants have the choice of playing with the Lego on their own, in pairs, or in small groups, building from their imaginations or using Lego instruction booklets. Participants can engage in alternative activities as required. During the ‘free build’ time the participants further practice using skills developed during the facilitated ‘structured build’.

Is the Lego® Group based on any particular program?

Our Lego®-Based Therapy Group is based on the ‘Building Social Skills Lego® Therapy Group’, a program in which Susan May is trained and certified to facilitate. The original program was designed for children with Autism, developmental delays, and/or social learning difficulties.

The program focuses on the development of many vital skills such as sharing, turn-taking, collaboration, conflict resolution, verbal, and non-verbal communication. Each child has a specific role, and they work together to build a model. They will have fun, explore their creativity, and interact with others in a supported environment.

Circle of Security Program

At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.

Using the COSP™ model developed by the Circle of Security originators, Juanita works with parents and care-givers to help them to:

  • Understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs
  • Support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
  • Enhance the development of their child’s self esteem
  • Honour the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure

The program runs for 8 weeks, with participants being required to attend all 8 weekly sessions. Further information can be found at circleofsecurityinternational.com.
